General Manager - Wilmington, Delaware

Scope:  250,000 sq. foot plant.  GM will have factory responsibility and accountability including engineering, procurement, production, human capital, sourced materials, delivery of high quality products and commercial sales.  Will have 5-10 direct reports including Quality & Safety. 

Continuous Improvement Journey: Company began the lean journey less than five years ago.  GM’s lead, implement, coach, and drive SQDC.  Each factory is creating a daily, Gemba focused improvement workforce culture.

Manufacturing Processes: heavy metal fabrication, cutting, welding, machining, grinding, paint, assembly, and packaging. 

Travel:  10-15%

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years manufacturing (boots on the floor) manufacturing leadership experience in the large structural steel fabrication industry.  Steel joist experience highly desirable.
  • 3-5 years’ experience as factory Plant Manager or Director, Operations with progressive P&L experience.   
  • Must have strong manufacturing systems process experience (i.e... supply chain, Kanban, scheduling, SIOP, value stream linkage from sales order to shipped units, logistics, safety, quality and structured facilities/machinery maintenance systems such as TPM).
  • Highly prefer candidates with previous continuous improvement leadership experience in mature, structured lean journey.  Must demonstrate experience leading by example to increase workforce discipline and accountability for daily product/process improvement and problem solving.  Must demonstrate sustainable cost and revenue improvement impacts.  
  • Lean tool application:  experience leading visual factory creation, strategy deployment, solid history participating, leading kaizen events with expert-level Standard Work, Variation Reduction tool champion status.   
  • Team building:  can build well oiled winning team - driving inspiration, accountability, managing change, teaching, coaching, and spearheading/leading operational excellence initiatives by example.

Education:  Engineering degree required with advanced business degree highly desirable.
