Director of Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement - Charlotte, Michigan

Job description

Business: Forty-year old highly-complex, engineered-to-order, heavy equipment U.S. public manufacturing company with zero debt and high growth trajectory.

Career Opportunity:  Reporting directly to the recently appointed CEO, you will develop the blueprint for a lean operating system; write the playbook for lean deployment and business integration; build a new lean team; guide transformation and integration of 4 business units.

Location: Lansing, Michigan area.

Manufacturing Processes:  heavy metal fabrication, electrical, machining, paint, assembly, test.

Direct Reports:  10-12 

Travel:  30-40%

Desired Skills and Experience

  1. 15+ years’ experience low-volume, high-complexity products.
  2. Applying TPS (not Lean/Sigma) to integrate multiple Business Units on common operating system.    
  3. Experience applying Hoshin or Strategy Deployment in low-volume, high complexity production environment. Highly prefer experience integrating business units on common CI platform.
  4. Experience aggressively targeting improvement metrics. Leading, implementing, coaching, driving SQDC.
  5. Installing daily Gemba leadership and Leader Standard Work.
  6. Advanced application of lean tools: visual factory, Hoshin OR strategy deployment, solid history participating, leading kaizen events with expert-level Standard Work, Variation Reduction tool champion status.
  7. Highly desired capability (but not absolute) strong mfg. systems process experience (i.e. supply chain, Kanban, scheduling, SIOP, value stream linkage from sales order to shipped units).  
  8. Education: engineering degree required.
